Over the CIAM 9 in Aix-en-Provence

   Texts only in French

Among the saga of the International Conferences on Modern Architecture (CIAM), that is to say 10 conferences from 1928 to 1958, the one dedicated to the creation of a Charter of Housing, which occurred in 1953 in Aix-en-Provence, is granted a mystical place.
The young generation of architects enrolled in the Modern Movement thus reconsiders the inheritance and asserts its independence, especially from the Le Corbusier and the doctrine of modern town planning carried by the Charter of Athens.
This charter is internationally organised within the Team-Ten, and is included in a larger movement in the same wavelength with the sensibilities of post World War II, which foreshadow much of the actual problems.
The propositions, the forms and the facts owed to this cultural trend, that may be qualified in retrospect, of ‘critique Modernity', have been at the centre of various contributions and questionings within the international seminar located in Aix-en-Provence on October 2003 at the Mediterranean House of Sciences and Human Being (MMSH). All of these topics have been reunited in this book.
The seminar and the creation of the book have been co ordinated by Jean-Lucien Bonillo, Claude Massu and Daniel Pinson and published by Imbernon Publishers.
