29,50 €

Since its foundation in 2006, the work done by Abalos+Sentkiewicz, one of the two offices into which the former Abalos&Herreros studio split, has stood out on the Spanish and international architecture scene for its original synthesis of technical rigour, formal richness and its integrating of architecture, landscape and environment.

A process revealed
33 €

This volume details the design and construction process behind the Murray Grove, an extraordinary nine-storey residential development in central London.
The tallest building of its kind to be made entirely of timber, the structure will have a profound effect on the way we build in the future. Constructed on time and under budget, the building has pushed forward the boundaries of wood use in contemporary construction.

The book shows how London-based architectural firm Waugh Thistleton worked closely with the engineer and manufacturers throughout the design and assembly to enhance the building's performance and make the structure possible.
Detailed technical information, diagrams and descriptions are included here, along with a full description of the process by Wallpaper magazine Design and Arts Editor Henrietta Thompson.

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni: Minimum Design
40 €

Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1913-1968) and Achille (1918-2002) are the eldest and the youngest of the three Castiglioni brothers who all studied architecture at the Milan Polytechnic. The two Castiglioni brothers were interested in both technology and art and in the 1940s began their original professional partnership, ''Castiglioni brothers''. The company was especially successful with their lamps for Arredoluce, Flos, and Artemide. The brothers worked from the viewpoint that design must restructure an object's function, form and production process, a philosophy they applied to every work they produced.

Published in the same style as the successful Minimum Architects series, the Minimum Design series includes books about the major figures in the field of design, creators of objects that have become a part of our daily lives. The lamp on our desk, the chair we are sitting on or the glasses we are wearing have a genius behind to be discovered.

These volumes will introduce in a practical manner the personalities and the works of the world's major designers by way of an historical-critical introduction to the work and life of each individual designer. An accurate selection of the designer's most famous objects arranged in chronological order and a critique of his or her work summarizing the most significant reviews published in magazines and newspapers will complete the subject.

ar/t/chitecture 1
13 €

Architecture about c+d
29 €

Snobisme dira-t-on !

Best Highrises 2016/17 The International Highrise Award 2016
34 €

In times of growing metropolises and ever denser urban structures, the high-rise typology is more in demand and more necessary than ever. Building upwards is inevitable. For a long time, highrises have housed not only offices and residential units, instead their innovative concepts also combine other usages such as train stations, shopping malls, or parks. Aspects such as sustainability, energy, and cost efficiency are of increasing importance, as well as sensitive integration into the urban context.

The International Highrise Award is bestowed every two years to an outstanding building that displays a special esthetic, pioneering design, innovative technology and profitability. The publication presents the award winner, as well as all 30 nominated projects from 14 countries, among others by Zaha Hadid, Lord Norman Foster or Richard Meier, with photos and plans. With this it documents current and significant trends in worldwide high-rise architecture.

Black greens

Photographer Judith Jockel took pictures of all the rest areas at the exit and entry ramps and junctions on the A10 motorway, the ring road around Amsterdam.
In doing so, Judith Jockel was inspired by the medieval version of the Hortus Conclusus. Generally speaking, the vegetation along these rest areas does not seem to have been individually designed.
In any case, these places all convey the subordinate role they play. She noticed that the rest areas along the motorways around Amsterdam are well cared for.
Trees grow in tidy rows and the ponds are surrounded by bushes and other vegetation along the junctions with the A4, A8 and A9. Meticulously created non-places that transform into wild and abandoned spots during the summer months.

Breakthroughs: Avant-garde Artists in Europe and America, 1950-1990
55 €

Inspired by Abstract Expressionism, avant-garde art has emerged in the second half of the 20th century manifested in such unorthodox artforms as Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptualism. The Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio, a showplace for the contemporary arts, has marked its first year with this hefty, amply illustrated anthology. Chronologically divided into three eras that correspond to three Wexner Center exhibitions, the 16 scholarly essays in the first two sections--written by notable art critics and historians involved in the movement--examine such issues as the synthesis of the arts, the cultural shift from Europe to America, and influences of popular culture in relation to each decade's sociopolitical issues. The third section contains several interviews with artists discussing their creative processes. Recommended for academic and large public libraries.

The Wexner Center's inaugural publication, Breakthroughs is an extraordinary survey of avant-garde art. This substantial, thoroughly illustrated volume details the activities of avant-garde artists, musicians, performing artists, and film and video makers-from Laurie Anderson, Joseph Beuys, and John Cage to Yvonne Rainer, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol.

Breuer houses
65 €

The Hungarian-born architect Marcel Breuer (1902-81) rose to prominence as a student under Walter Gropius at the Bauhaus and became head of the furniture workshop. He emigrated to the United States in 1937, where he taught at Harvard University, influencing a whole generation of practitioners. As the head of his own firm, Breuer became known for designs as diverse and powerful as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and the iconic 'Wassily' chair - the first ever chair to use tubular steel, which revolutionized the furniture industry.

Breuer, like many architects who work simultaneously on small- and large-scale commissions, used residential architecture as a laboratory for all of his design ideas. Not only is the quality and quantity of Breuer's residential output impressive, but when it is seen in sequence one can perceive a development of his spatial mastery and expertise. Because of their interplay of spaces and daring juxtaposition of materials, Breuer's houses have had a profound influence on residential architecture around the world and on many generations of young designers.

This monograph is a comprehensive study of Breuer's house designs from 1923 to 1973. Richly illustrated with drawings, plans and archival photography, the book provides a penetrative insight into the working methods of a key twentieth-century architectural figure.

C(h)améléon
45 €

Casa Barcelona
33 €

In this its third incarnation, as in the two previous years the Casa Barcelona project aims to impact on the way we think about contemporary housing, seeking to persuade us that we can aspire to a better home, better suited to our needs, at a lower price than we are paying now.
The springboard it uses to advance in this direction is the close involvement of industry to suggest to visitors how their homes could be and to provide architects with the elements that can turn those suggestions into realities.
With each Casa Barcelona, the role of the industrial partners has gained in importance. If in the past top-level international designers played a central part, we now have no doubts about entrusting the project to professionals who are closer to the industrial promoter or to Casa Barcelona's own technical staff.
Projects by David Chipperfield, Carlos Ferrater, Ignacio Paricio, Felipe Pich-Aguilera and Vicenç Sarrablo.

Dance Architecture Spatiality
20 €
