Riken Yamamoto
"JA51" is a special issue devoted to the works of Riken Yamamoto. Yamamoto's projects are always considered to be systematic. This is perceived from the elements he creates or the methodology through which he creates plans and even urban blocks. This observation may be attributable to his way of capturing certain things of the background in his creation of a pattern. The projects published in this issue cover a span of more than 25 years, from those of his early days to those that are currently underway. However, all have one commonality in that each of them has some situation that is revealed through the process of creation. In recent years, he is undertaking several large-scale projects not only in Japan but also abroad, which are collaborations with other architects. This form of engagement may very well be a method responsive to the changing situations that surround architecture. "Discover many things as you create, then transform the situation". We suggest a closer look at this possibility of creation by reviewing Yamamotoユs works.
