Auteur : Jaume Freixa
Josep Lluís Sert (1902-1983) was one of the most influential Spanish architects and urban planners of the 20th century. Not only via his architecture and urban design projects, but also through his positions as dean of the Harvard Graduate Design School and President of CIAM (International Congresses of Modern Architecture), Sert contributed to the enrichment - and upgrading - of the architectural principles of functionalism, by blending them with the timeless features of Mediterranean architecture and the visual stimuli of contemporary art. By analysing some of his most emblematic works, this monographic study takes a new approach to Sert as a designer. Through numerous articles and illustrations, author Jaume Freixa reveals the personality of a man who reformed architectural language and defended the importance of the environment, climate and landscape. All in all, Sert was an exponent of modernity with a highly humanistic vision.
